"This is the victory that has won against the world," 1 John 5:4.
Right! Yeah! Ah! but ... wait ... what won, exactly? Looks like it's both a who and a what: Who wins? and, What did the winning? Well, the who is the person who believes that Jesus is God's son. That's who has won. The person who's been born from God - that's who has won. Who's born from God? The person who believes that Jesus is the Christ. Who loves the father. The person who keeps God's unburdensome commands. That's who's won. (What commands? to love God's children.) To say it out loud: The person who loves God's children. That's who's won. OK. So, what's the what that has won over the world? Our faith. Believing that Jesus is the Son of God. Believing that Jesus is the Christ. God called that faith good enough.
God has made us good enough, so we meet victoriously with a brother or sister today! And, together, we praise God for having wrapped us up with Jesus in his win against all our odds.
