"Who among them has stood in the council of Jehovah?" Jeremiah 23:18.
Well, as it turns out, none of them. None of them saw God's word. None heard it. None paid attention to it. None listened to it. Nonetheless, they scurried around to tell their dreams when God did not send them. They announced visions that God did not show them. They told people who ignored God's word that everything would work out OK. They ignored God's coming hurricane and told hard-hearted people they were safe. Rather, God's true people receive godly counsel from God's true word. These hear the God who is here. Who is there. And throughout the cosmos. And beyond it. Word.
When we visit with a brother or sister today, chastened, we listen to God's word reverently. And, together, we give thanks to God who shares his counsel richly with his listening people.
