"Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire," Revelation 20:14.
Whoa, Nellie! What does that mean? Yeah, that's a big deal, but it's a future (to us) thing. It's the aftermath of the Great Day of Judgment when every person ever to have lived, no matter when, where, or how they died, shall have been brought back to life and God shall have judged them in their accounting for the way they had lived. The deepest sea, death itself, the very place where the dead are dead, all these gave up the dead people in them. (It sort of repeats itself to make sure we get it, that everybody's at judgment.) The lake of fire is the place where God destroys for ever. People whose names are in the book of life (that is, covered by Jesus' sacrifice) have transferred to life. Everything else - into the lake! Death, too, dies forever. Jesus shall have reigned through it all until every last enemy has been put down - including death itself.
So, when we meet with a brother or sister today, we encourage each other to keep walking in the light of Jesus' life, bypassing that lake. And, together, we give thanks for the hope of resurrection to forever life!
