"This is trying so hard to chase the wind," Ecclesiastes 2:26.
So, the conversation is about God. It's about meaning and despair, about what's the point of it all. Because the wise man concluded that life's end remains vanity. Pointless. Life ends on empty. A person works hard (or not) all life long but what have they gained from all that work? Folks tell us, Ya can't take it with you. Indeed, heirs (and others) get all the stuff that the dead left behind. Whoever dies with the most toys ... well, they just die. Life for this world alone is pretty depressing. Yet. Hope rests in one alone: God. God grants purpose and meaning that cuts across this mortal age into an eternal age ahead. Hope arises outside this dying age, inside the ageless heart of God's eternal plan.
We visit with a brother or sister today in the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit. And, together, we bow in thanksgiving for the anchoring hope of Jesus' resurrection.
