Spirit

"Where is their God?" Psalm 115:2.

O God, Eternal Spirit: You live way up in the skies - above the skies! You do anything, free to do anything you care to do. Human hands fashion idols from earth's stuff. Idols' wordless mouths stay silent. Yet your word, O Spirit, creates worlds. Idols' blind eyes see nothing. Yet you notice our distress. Idols' deaf ears fail. Yet you, God, hear every call to you. Idols have dead noses. Yet you, O Spirit, sense the fragrance of every kindness. Idols' frozen hands feel nothing. Yet you hold everyone as your child. Idols' exquisitely immobile feet stand impassive. Yet you fly to our aid. Idols' breathless throats remain speechless. But you, Jehovah God, are breath itself, you command the air, you are Spirit! And your Word speaks into our hearts. Glory to our hands? Never! Not to our creative fashion: All glory goes to you, Jehovah, to your name, above all names.

With each other, brother, sister, we look up to find our able God directing his kingdom in justice and fairness. And, together, in spirit and truth, we give thanks to God, one and only true Spirit.
