"Whoever loves God must also love his brother," 1 John 4:21.
So. The Word has just gotten through discussing confessing Jesus as the son of God. Discussing that people with God's Spirit abide in God. And God in them. That we (having the Spirit) believe the love that God has for us. That we do not fear God's judgment any longer because we've been perfected in God's love. Because we're like God in this world. God loved us first, and we learned to love God from God's first love for us. So now we love God and we love a brother (or sister), too. But who, exactly, is this brother (or sister) we're to love? Ah. Good news: Jesus tells us exactly. He tells us in the story of the Good Samaritan. So, we go and do likewise.
As we visit with a brother or sister today, we express God's love for one another. And, together, we give deep thanks for God's deep love for each, and all, of us.
