Council

"God has taken his place in the council of gods," Psalm 82:1.

Weird. Totally weird. The scene shows a gathering of the gods. We might think of Osiris, Thor, Vishnu, Gaia, Izanagi, Baal, Ix Chel, a sort of super-council of all earth's gods ever. But it gets weirder. We'd need to include our own names in that council, if Jesus can be trusted. Yeah, that's right. Our names. Jesus quotes Most High God from that psalm: I said you are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you. Jesus' comment about that is this: Scripture cannot be broken. Weird. Weird. Weird. But then, God says to them (us) all: But you will die and fall like men and their heroes. Why death? They were weighed in the scales and found wanting. They judged unjustly. They failed justice to the weak, to the fatherless, they failed the rights of the afflicted and of the destitute.

As brothers or sisters to Jesus, son of the Most High, mediator between us and God, we join his work to rescue the weak and needy. And, together, we give thanks to God who now includes us, his ambassadors, in reconciling the world to himself.
