"The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life," John 6:63.
Whose words? Jesus'. Very clearly, Jesus had said that whoever feeds on his flesh and drinks his blood would live in him. Very clearly, he said whoever feeds on him would live. Very clearly, he said that his flesh is true food and his blood is true drink. Very clearly, he said unless you eat his flesh and drink his blood, you'd have no life. Very clearly, he said whoever eats his flesh and drinks his blood would have eternal life. Very clearly, Jesus said he was the bread of life. Very clearly, he said he was the bread that came down from heaven, that whoever ate of this bread would live forever. And then. And then. And then. Very clearly, Jesus said the flesh is of no avail. Don't confuse metaphor with the real. The real, true, life-giving food from heaven: Jesus' Words. His Teaching. To believe him, to believe in him, to believe his words: here is life-giving spirit, life itself.
With a brother or sister today we recognize that to eat of Christ is to listen and follow the provision of his words. And, together, we give thanks to God who very clearly provides the words of life, the Word of life, leading inexorably to the sky kingdom.
