"Christ is the head of the congregation, and the congregation submits to Christ," Ephesians 5:23, 24.
That's fundamental. But here's where it gets weird. Therefore, ergo, consequently, thus, so: a wife must submit herself to her husband. (?!) But that's not all. And. Therefore, ergo, consequently, thus, so: a husband must give up himself for his wife. (?!) Wait! What is this? What does Jesus and his people have to do with marriage? Well, that's a mystery. A God mystery. A husband and a wife who honor Christ. (N.B.: Not men generally nor women generally! Nor unbelievers!) A husband and a wife live out the story of Christ and the church. She gives him deep respect. He gives her unsparing love. They become integral to each other. In fact: they become one, each dedicated to the benefit of the other.
When we visit today with a brother or sister, we honor Christ. And, together, we give thanks to him who loved us first.
