Needed

"Tell her to help me," Luke 10:40.

Yes, Lord, tell those people who just sit around while we do all the hard work to help out! It's a big job and we need to work hard for you to get the thing done, and we're glad you're here, but, wow!, there's a lot we need to do, and they're not helping. And we're pretty tired, and we need to keep on going, and - are you even paying attention to us? Don't you even care? - I mean, we need to be hospitable, but, brother!, there's a lot of people here, and lots of feet we need to wash, and way too many drinks we need to serve, and a bunch of food we need to get to the table, and somebody needs to wash the dirty dishes. And, gently, Jesus said, Here's the only needed thing: Sit at my feet and listen to my teaching.

We meet with a brother or sister today at Jesus' feet and listen to him. And, together, we give thanks for his life-giving words.
