Sonship

"The Spirit sent Jesus right away into the desert," Mark 1:12.

What Spirit? God's Spirit. The Spirit that had come down on Jesus as he came up out of the water at his baptism. The Spirit that confirmed Jesus as Son of God. The Spirit of sonship. Yeah. So. The Spirit drives Jesus into the desert. Forty days. No food. Wild animals around. Satan attacks with exquisite temptations to power. And God's messengers, angels, help him out. To be God's child exempts no one from trials. Nor from God's deliverances.

We pause with a brother or sister today in the busy-ness of our lives to pray. And, together, we give thanks for God's guidance away from temptations into deliverance from evil.
