Band

"Jesus made twelve be with him, and called them apostles," Mark 3:14.

So early on, Jesus chose the twelve. This band of brothers became his emissaries, his preachers, into the world, eye-witnesses of all the things he said and did. All the things from his baptism, through his death, burial, and resurrection, including him being taken up into the sky. (One of them absented himself from the resurrection and ascension, and, by treachery, lost the place Jesus had wanted for him.) For those who hung in there with him, Jesus placed their testimony, along with prophets, as foundation for the kingdom he established. For the church he built. They, indeed, would eat and drink at his table in the kingdom and would sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And for all who believe in Jesus through their word, glory!

We meet today with a brother or sister because we have come to believe in Jesus through their testimony. And, together, made one by Christ's love, we give heartfelt thanks to God forever.
