Presence

"Take off your sandals, you're on holy ground," Exodus 3:5.

Holy ground. Sacred space. Extraordinary place. Special. Consecrated. Not your everyday digs. Sacrosanct (meaning: especially special, holier than plain old holy). Hallowed. Eternal. Divine. Compared to what? Common. Vulgar. Messed up. Same old same old. Profane. Everyday. Not a big deal. Mundane. Seen one seen'em all. Temporal. Ordinary. Secular. So. What makes for holy ground? Divine presence. Wherever God's seated. Or standing. Or building. God's house. Wherever God shows up. Don't sully God's home with dirty soles. Take'em off. Holy ground: God's temple which you (and you, and you, and, yes, you, too) are. Church of Christ.

When meeting a brother or sister today, we see God's presence in them, so we tread meekly on holy ground. And, together, humbly, we give thanks for standing in the Presence supported by the foundation that cleansed our souls: Christ Jesus.
