"I have set before you today life and good, death and evil," Deuteronomy 30:15.
Who's talking? Moses. Who's he talking to? Israelites, descendants of Jacob. What's he talking about? God's commandments, statutes, and rules. So what's about life and death? Moses says that if they do the law, they and their descendants will live in the promised land with God's great blessings. But if they don't listen but go after other gods, they will not live long in the land and they will die. Moses placed a blessing and a curse in front of the people. Obey God and live. Turn away and die. Like it or not. The curse is a big deal. A very big deal. God wasn't kidding when he kicked them out of Eden. Or out of the promised land. Or Satan out of heaven.
We meet with a brother or sister today, redeemed from the curse through the blood of Jesus' cross. And, together, we give thanks to God for establishing a new covenant of reconciliation through Jesus' faithful obedience.
