"Abraham was looking forward to the city that has foundations; its designer and builder, God," Hebrews 11:10.
By faith. Faith, indeed. Abraham and Sarah. The both of them, by faith, wandering this planet, strangers and exiles to it. Sarah believed God would be faithful to his promise. So she received power to conceive well past the age. By faith Abraham, so old as to be dead, fathered nations. They looked for a better land: a heavenly homeland. But they didn't get it. Not yet. And God. God. God is not ashamed to be their God. God has gotten a city ready for them. Ready for all people, who with them, look by faith for a homeland in the sky.
With a brother or sister today, we acknowledge to be strangers, foreigners, exiles to this world. Confident in our God, we look forward to our real homeland built by Christ. And, together, even through tears, we give joyful thanks.
