Transfixed

"Let's make three shrines," Mark 9:5.

So. What do you do when you're terrified? Terrified. (Not merely stirred by, but) terrified by an overwhelming spiritual experience? When, transfixed, you see Jesus, Moses, and Elijah blazing bright, talking together? Well, first order of business: contain the divine terror. Build a box to tame it. In fact, let's put up three booths. (In our ignorance.) One each for Jesus, Moses, Elijah. Yeah. Appease the deity. (But to no avail. Can't be done.) The divine terror overshadows all to thunder out its irrepressible voice: Hear him! This is my Son! The beloved One!

Hearing Jesus, we visit with a brother or sister today on our knees. And, together, we yield our very selves, heart, soul, and strength, God's temple on earth.
