"Where did he get this?"
He who? Jesus. Get what? These teachings. This wisdom. Such mighty powers. Where'd all this come from? (That's what the astonished neighbors who had watched Jesus grow up as a kid said when they heard him teach in their synagogue and saw him heal with his hands.) But, don't be fooled by this teaching, wisdom, and power! Nossir! He's still the carpenter we always knew. Yeah, he's just Mary's boy, and we can name his brothers, too (James, Joses, Judas, Simon)! And his sisters are right here! Who does he think he is? Hmm. By the way. Ever wonder about what Jesus wondered about? Well, here it is: He marveled at human unbelief in the face of God's handiwork. But, he went ahead anyway and healed and taught, himself personifying God's wisdom. Grace.
As we visit with a brother or sister today, we share the faith Jesus taught us. And, together, our hearts give thanks for his mercies in our weaknesses.
