Grabbing

"Why is man important to you?" Psalm 8:4.

Except for disturbed moments of barren arrogance, people admit their tiny place among the galaxies of the cosmos. While philosophers talk of grabbing the best seats on a bus to oblivion, theologians tell of God's rage. News currents numb with the interminable story: troubled human beings, unbearable responsibility, deludedly powerless. But this poet, the psalmist, sees a Redeemer. God. A Redeemer God. Sees God who teaches babies to persevarate in praise to the hushing of foes. A God who touches every star in place. A God who places humans carefully in charge. The poet asks, Why? Why does God care? The poem gives no answer. It's just the way God is. O Jehovah God, our Lord - all praise to you!

But when a brother or sister sees us today, we recognize our falling short of God's designs. Yet, we do see Jesus, our flesh and blood brother, gaining place for us and graciously inviting us to join him. So, together, we give thanks to our Redeemer in hope of eternal placement with him. Sky kingdom.
